Overview

What if there were a room renting platform that inherently prevented discrimination?
Well, there is: NomadRooms.com.
The founders of NomadRooms.com noticed a potential for users to discriminate against other users based on their race, age, sex, or other personal traits in other room/property renting platforms so they deliberately developed NomadRooms.com so Members, Partners, and third parties cannot discriminate against each other based on Race, Color, Ethnicity, National Origin, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Marital Status, or other personal traits. This has been a priority of the NomadRooms.com platform from day one.

As you use the NomadRooms.com platform, you will quickly see that it has been designed to create a global community based on 1) Trust 2) Inclusion 3) Respect. Our shared commitment to these principles enables all members of our community to feel welcome on the NomadRooms.com platform no matter who they are, where they come from, how they worship, or whom they love. NomadRooms recognizes that some jurisdictions permit, or require, distinctions among individuals based on factors such as national origin, gender, marital status or sexual orientation, and it does not require Partners to violate local laws or take actions that may subject them to legal liability. NomadRooms will provide additional guidance and adjust this nondiscrimination policy to reflect such permissions and requirements in the jurisdictions where they exist.

How does it work?

Trust is the corner stone of our business so all members are verified and allowed to join our community based on their ability to be trusted. This means we welcome people of all backgrounds with authentic hospitality and open minds. We only ask them to prove that they can be trusted. Joining NomadRooms, as a Partner or Member, means becoming part of a community of inclusion. Bias, prejudice, racism, and hatred have no place on our platform or in our community. While Partners are required to follow all applicable laws that prohibit discrimination based on such factors as race, religion, national origin, and others listed below, we do much than simply comply with the minimum requirements established by law.

While other platforms ‘ask’ users to not discriminate, we’ve created the NomadRooms.com platform to eliminate the potential of discrimination. What do you mean? NomadRooms.com, in the manner in which it operates, makes it difficult for Members and Partners to discriminate against each other. For example, Members and Partners do not post their personal information, they are represented by their user name and avatar only.

Our Partners (Room Owners) trust us to provide Members who are well vetted and can be trusted. Bookings are instant, there is no need to wait for a Room Owner to evaluate a request before confirming a booking. In the NomadRooms system, Members build their trust and improve their “belt” ranking. Partners can only distinguish members based on their belt ranking, no other factors. Members with a high belt ranking enjoy many perks, see our Belts Ranking Policy.

Our platform prevents Partners from declining a booking based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status; imposing any different terms or conditions based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status; or posting any listing or making any statement that discourages or indicates a preference for or against any Member on account of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status. It is a better method then simply asking for compliance.

Partners may provide factually accurate information about their listing’s features (or lack of them) that could make the listing unsafe or unsuitable for Members of a certain age or families with children or infants. And they may note in their listings applicable community restrictions (e.g., senior housing), regulations, or laws that prohibit Members under a particular age or families with children or infants. Partners may indicate certain restrictions on their properties. For example, except where prohibited by law, Partners may indicate no pets or no smoking allowed.

Partners are encouraged to use our exclusive Contract Builder to list rules and restrictions for their accommodation/s. Contract terms are meant to make clear the rules and restrictions for a property, not restrict Members based on Race, Color, Ethnicity, National Origin, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, or Marital Status, or other personal traits.

NomadRooms does not assign a gender identity to our Members. We identify Members and Partners via their avatars only. When a Partner receives a booking confirmation, they will only receive the following data regarding our Member/s:

  • The number of adults for the booking.
  • The number of children for the booking.
  • The belt ranking of the Member booking the property.

TRUST is a two-way relationship. Partners depend on NomadRooms for tenants that they can trust and Members depend on NomadRooms for accommodations that they can trust.

Outside of the United States, the European Union, and Canada, some countries or communities may allow or even require people to make accommodation distinctions based on, for example, marital status, national origin, gender or sexual orientation, in violation of our general nondiscrimination philosophy. In these cases, we do not require Partners to violate local laws, nor to accept Members that could expose the Partners to a real and demonstrable risk of arrest, or physical harm to their persons or property. Partners who live in such areas should set out any such restriction on their ability to accommodate particular Members in their listing, so that prospective Members are aware of the issue and NomadRooms can confirm the necessity for such an action. In communicating any such restrictions, we expect Partners to use clear, factual, non-derogatory terms. Slurs and insults have no place on our platform or in our community.
