Overview

Unlike many room/property rental websites that are just listing services, NomadRooms.com is a full service platform designed to minimize the efforts of our Partners, the property owners, and protect our Members that borrow the properties so generally there is never a need to make/collect a payment or payments outside of NomadRooms.com.

How does it work?

One of our top priorities at NomadRooms is to make Members and Partners feel safe. Part of this includes processing all payments via the NomadRooms platform to insure fairness, correctness, and security. It is extremely rare that a Partner will collect payment from a Member outside of NomadRooms.com. If there are situations where our Partners must collect fees outside of NomadRooms.com, the details for those fees must be added to the properties listing.

Rare occasions that my require Partners to collect funds outside of the NomadRooms.com platform include, but are not limited to:

  • Resort fees: These may cover amenities like wifi or valet parking.
  • Incidentals: This might include airport shuttle or parking fees.
  • Local occupancy tax: In some areas, Partners are legally required to collect this in person. The amount of tax due must be included on the properties listing.

Again, Partners must include details about these fees in their property listing.

Members should always be alert and watch for Red Flags or signs of a scam. Red flags include wire or bank transfer requests, and PDF or paper invoices. Stay mindful of terms like Western Union, MoneyGram, cashier’s check, money order, or Liberty Reserve. If you receive an email from anyone asking for payment off-site, contact us immediately.

Types of scams

Help protect yourself from these common scams by booking through the NomadRooms.com platform, keeping your personal details private, more privacy than any other room-renting platform!

Advance fee scam: Someone offers to pay you or give you something if you pay through a service outside NomadRooms.com.

Phishing scam: Someone sends an email or link posing as NomadRooms.com or another trusted site. These messages are designed to trick you into providing confidential information, and may contain malicious software (malware) designed to access passwords and contacts.

Travel scam: Someone offers a great deal if you pay by wire transfer, then fails to deliver.

Overpayment scam: A tenant offers to pay more than the listed price, then asks the property owner for cash to cover the difference.

Third-party booking scam: Someone offers to reserve and pay for an NomadRoom.com listing through their third-party website or service, often claiming to have an NomadRooms coupon or discount. These reservations are typically paid for using stolen credit cards.

Note that in many scams, you are offered a great deal (often “too good to be true), but in order for you to get the deal, you have to pay or do something for the scammer first. The scammers get what they want then never honor their end of the deal.

What if?

  • What if I’m asked for a fee that was not listed on NomadRooms.com?
    • Generally, you should contact NomadRooms before paying the fee. However, this is not always practical so please use proper discretion. For example, if because of a special event (it is obvious that parking is especially full), parking that is usually available is not so you must use pay parking. Another example, If you are asked to pay a local room tax and that tax is not on the listing, you should refuse to pay until it’s verified by NomadRooms.com
